Thoughtfully written as always. I don’t feel like doing Christmas anymore now that my grandparents and parents are gone. There doesn’t seem to be anything or anyone to circle around and celebrate. I don’t shop for gifts, I will make cards to send, but the whole business of spending money is not what the holiday is about. Sad, isn’t it?

I felt more alienated than usual this year from the gift-giving aspect of the day. Finances were tight, and now that her grandma's gone, our kiddo no longer gets the big stack of presents she's used to. That made me reflect more deeply on the true meaning of the day, and while I certainly know its origin and roots, I just found it hard to connect. If I feel alienated from it, I know others must, especially those who may have never had a strong connection to the religious and spitual aspect of Christmas in the first place.
